Why Yes Baby?
Approximately 70% of couples trying to conceive experience vaginal dryness, thus making sexual intercourse painful. All traditional, glycerine based lubricants damage sperm. So couples using glycerine-based lubricants, such as KY Jelly(1), may inadvertently prevent conception rather than enabling it. The two main factors that damage sperm are pH and osmolality(2), the osmolality of glycerine-based lubricants is too high for sperm and often the pH is too low(1) Vaginal pH is typically acidic, and therefore hostile to sperm, except during .ovulation (the most fertile period).
Sperm friendly lubricants match semen pH (slightly alkaline) and osmolality, to ensure sperm longevity. Critically, when vaginal pH is elevated above its typical protective acidity the likelihood of infection such as Bacterial vaginosis (BV) or Thrush is significantly increased. Incidence of BV is linked to various reproductive and pregnancy related events including early pregnancy loss, preterm labour and preterm delivery(3). Therefore, when trying to conceive it is vitally important vaginal health is maintained, to give a fertilised egg the best possible chance of developing to full term.
So the use of just a sperm friendly lubricant (i.e. Yes baby pack 1) could challenge healthy vaginal pH. Uniquely Yes Baby has the solution by providing pack 2, the vagina friendly moisturising lubricant to restore the protective acidic vaginal pH, thus reducing the likelihood of infection.
