BodyCare Sea Sponge
Does your wash routine cleanse, renew and nourish your skin? Or are you unknowingly jeopardizing your health with harsh chemicals and additives from something as seemly harmless as your sponge?
Are you caring for the planet while caring for your body? Or is your sponge just another disposable product that will end up in a landfill?
While much is said about natural soap and body washes, a natural bathing sponge is essential to a holistic, luxurious cleansing routine.
Typical synthetic sponges are harmful to the environment and bad for your body. Petroleum-based ingredients, bleached cellulose, and hormone-altering chemicals leach into your skin during every warm sudsy shower or bath. They retain dirty water, creating a breeding ground for mold and bacteria. Because sponges are not biodegradable, the average sponge continues to clog our landfills and pollute our planet for centuries.
But nature gifted us with the perfect bath sponge. Natural, biodegradable, and wonderfully luxurious.
The Honeycomb Sea Sponge.
Honeycomb sea sponges are found in the cool waters of the Mediterranean sea. These unique sponges are hearty and dense, created by a complex structure of thousands of channels and pores.
The sponge's cellular makeup is what makes it such an effective bathing tool. It produces a rich lather with just the tiniest bit of soap or body wash, and the fibers themselves draw buildup and dirt away from the skin. They exfoliate as they cleanse, removing dead skin cells and encouraging the growth of new ones. The result? Smooth, glowing skin free of toxins and impurities. Naturally occurring enzymes inhibit the growth of bacteria or mold within the sponge, so you know you are always getting a pure cleanse.
Our team takes the time to select, inspect, and test each and every sponge before we decide if it is luxurious enough to pass as a BodyCare sea sponge. We check for optimal density, size, and uniformity because we know these factors affect your bathing experience. Sponges that are less than ideal are repurposed, while the most pristine, luxurious sponges are passed along to you.
A sponge that is too small makes bathing tedious, a sponge that is too big can be awkward and uncomfortable to handle. Your BodyCare sea sponge is a generous 11.5cm, just the right size to fit in your hand for the ideal washing experience.
Harvesting these natural sponges is an important and delicate process. If a sponge is removed without careful planning, it disturbs the marine ecosystem. All Natural Intimacy brand BodyCare sea sponges are always ethically harvested. What is ethical harvesting? It is a gentle process where sponges are removed from their source without touching the roots. Similar to pruning a tree, this allows the stronger and bigger branches of sea sponge to regrow. The gentle harvesting process also causes millions of sponges cells to be released into the waters, where they are fertilized, attach to sea rocks, and grow into new sponges.

Why should I clean my sponge before using it?
The beauty of a 100% natural product is that it is not created in a lab and therefore not perfectly sterile. Since your sponge came out of the sea, it could still have some natural sea residue on it. That’s why we recommend cleaning it before you use it.
How should I clean my sponge before starting to use it? How should I clean between uses?
It’s up to you.
Wash with hand soap and water.
Soak your sponge for 10 minutes in a cup of 10:1 water-vinegar mixture. Add a few drops of tea tree oil for extra bacteria killing power.
Leave to air dry! For best results, hang it in a mesh bag away from surfaces.
Why are BodyCare sponges sourced from Honeycomb and not Wool sea sponges?
It's all about quality. Honeycomb sponges are more durable, more absorbent, and clean more effectively than other types of sponge.
I have sensitive skin, is this sponge good to use?
Yes! This sponge is a particularly good choice because it will allow you to thoroughly cleanse your body without using too much soap.
Can this sponge be used with Castile soap?
Yes! Just dilute your Castile soap, or it could wear out your sponge faster.
Why is my sponge is starting to look ragged?
After about 9 to 12 months of use, it is normal for your sponge fibers to start to fray. It’s probably time to get a new sponge.
Can my sponge be composted?
Totally! It’s a great way to return what came from the seas, back to the earth.
