BabyCare Sea Sponges. Twin Pack.
Whether you are cleaning the soft folds of tiny newborn skin or scrubbing muck and dirt off your toddler, bathtime gives us the daily opportunity to reconnect with our little ones.
For the best bathtime, you need the best tools. And while natural and gentle soap get a lot of attention, the humble sponge is often overlooked.
What could be wrong with a sponge? Unfortunately, lots!
Typical synthetic sponges are harmful to the environment and could upset your baby’s sensitive skin. Petroleum-based ingredients, bleached cellulose, and hormone-altering chemicals all make up an innocent looking sponge.
In addition to the chemicals, synthetic sponges retain dirty water, creating a breeding ground for mold and bacteria.
And because sponges are not biodegradable, the average sponge clogs our landfills and pollute our planet. Chances are the same sponge you used to wash your baby will still be sitting in a landfill long after he’s all grown up!
BabyCare natural sea sponges are totally different.
BabyCare sea sponges are not just any sponge. They come from the Honeycomb sea sponge family, found in the cool waters of the Mediterranean sea. These unique sponges are hearty yet soft and just the right size for cleaning your little ones.
The sponge's cellular makeup is what makes it such an effective bathing tool. Don’t waste your expensive natural baby wash —the sponge fibers themselves do most of the cleansing work. Spaghetti sauce faces, marker covered fingers, and sweaty newborn hair will all appreciate a gentle cleanse with this magical sponge.
Naturally occurring enzymes inhibit the growth of bacteria or mold within the sponge, so you can relax knowing your baby is getting a pure cleanse.
The Natural Intimacy team understand your baby’s needs, so we hand select the most perfect sponges. We check for optimal density, size, and softness because we know these factors affect your bathing experience. Sponges that are less than ideal are repurposed, while the most gentle and delicate sponges are passed along to your family.
When you use a BabyCare sea sponge, you are nurturing your little one and the planet at the same time! Trained divers ensure the root of the sponge is protected during harvesting, so new sponges can grow from the same source. Plus, the gentle harvesting process causes millions of sponges cells to be released into the waters, where they are fertilized, attach to sea rocks, and grow into new sponges.

Why should I clean my sponge before using it?
Since it came out of the sea, your sponge could still have some natural sea residue on or in it. Even though it's natural, it's best to wash that residue off. Especially because your baby might try to suck on the bath sponge (we’ve all had it happen!)
How should I clean my sponge before starting to use it? How should I clean between uses?
It’s up to you.
Wash with hand soap and water.
Soak your sponge for 10 minutes in a cup of 10:1 water-vinegar mixture. Add a few drops of tea tree oil for extra bacteria killing power.
Pour boiling water over your sponge. Let cool, then agitate and rinse under water (Disclaimer: if done often, this will cause your sponge to wear out quickly)
Leave to air dry! For best results, hang it in a mesh bag away from surfaces.
Why are BabyCare sponges sourced from Honeycomb and not Wool sea sponges?
It's all about quality. Honeycomb sponges are more durable, more absorbent, and clean more effectively than other types of sponge. Only the best for your baby!
My baby has eczema, is this sponge a good choice?
Yes! This sponge is a particularly helpful because it will allow you to thoroughly clean your baby without using too much soap.
Is this sponge soft enough to clean my baby’s face and ears?
Absolutely. You’ve probably never felt a sponge quite as soft as this one. It’s way softer than a washcloth.
I use a natural bath wash for my baby. Will this sponge help create a lather?
It’s very likely. These sponges have millions of naturally occurring pores and channels. These are effective at creating a lather than a washcloth or typical sponge.
Why is my sponge is starting to look ragged?
After about 9 to 12 months of use, it is normal for your sponge fibers to start to fray. It’s probably time to get a new sponge.
Can my sponge be composted?
Totally! Think about it- what came from the sea is returned back to the earth. It’s pretty awesome.
